Columbia trolley starts its rounds

Columbia's new trolley, the "Columbia Trolley Works," has been spotted around town. It started this year's run yesterday, Saturday, May 27.

The cost to ride the trolley is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Season passes are also available.

In December 2016, Columbia Borough Council voted to purchase the trolley, a 1993 model, from Elite Coach of Ephrata for $39,900.

The backstory of the trolley purchase can be found HERE and HERE.

  1. To have this bus in the parade with only one person it is a lack of what it is attended for! They the borough should have had that bus loaded with veterans!!!! Shame on the borough and i mean that with all my heart!!

  2. I was at the Mountville Memorial Day parade and saw Rivertowne Trolley loaded with veterans. Wasn't this the trolley that serviced Columbia last year?

  3. So, we arm-chair critics once again have found a way to take a positive thing in Columbia, and make it a negetive..... tsk tsk tsk

    1. So, exactly how many trolley drivers will the borough hire? This "Seasonal Part-time Trolley Driver" ad was in the Classified section of yesterday's LNP - Always Lancaster.

    2. Even though the trolley may be a positive, the borough ought to concentrate on Locust St. Business development and make visiting Columbia more worth while.

  4. I also agree. Columbia, for being a patriotic town that raised numerous generals, should had the bus filled with veterans and wounded warriors. Shame on the borough officials that control the use of the vehicle.

  5. i agree too. that would have been a no brainer! yes, the trolley SHOULD have been filled to the brim with Veterans......and you critics WONDER why we are negative? HellO? Is anyone home?? WTH? Where is Boro Mgmt? Where is Boro COuncil? Oh that's right. they ONLY like to SPEND SPEND SPEND MONEY that us hardworking homeowning taxpayers worked so hard for. Shame on each and every one of you. No excuses.

  6. The "Armchair critics" are footing the bill, but they are told keep their mouth shut.

There are so many great ideas that wouldn't cost a dime, or very little, but the borough officials do as THEY please.

For instance, New Holland has striking memorial banners on the poles that line their main street. They are fairly large and have a photograph of the person being honored in addition to a written message. I will bet my paycheck that the residents in Columbia would jump at the chance to purchase something like this without costing the borough anything.

Not only would this be more attractive than the banners currently displayed, but it would be meaningful as well.

River Park "rain gardens" could be sponsored by families each summer so the maintenance or upkeep would be free for the borough.

We are paying a hefty salary to have a consultant for community development.
Why are we doing this when we have a community development committee?

Councils are too small and this gives way too much spending power to a handful of people.

  7. attend Boro council mtgs. the second monday of the month at 7:00.....this Council likes to spend money on non-essential things. I can not understand how they do NOT understand that this is a poverty town and we taxpayers can NOT afford all the BS they spend money on. They live here, but do NOT care. we need councilors who are NOT afraid to say NO NO NO.

  8. If only the Powers in control thought ahead.
I'm sure many veterans would have felt so special to of been part of the parade for a change.
BTW, even the parades are going downhill. Wrightsville was absolutely outstanding again. Small but OUTSTANDING.
