Schools rely on local funds as they await state budget

Public school districts have two principal sources of revenue: their state subsidy and local funding. The latter comes primarily from property taxes.
In Lancaster County, the state share of district funding ranges from a low of about 17 percent for Manheim Township School District to 45 percent for SDL and 48 percent for Columbia Borough School District, the two highest.
